Margrave’s Opera
The Margrave’s Opera House built between 1744 and 1748 for Margravin Wilhelmine, sister of King Frederick II of Prussia, is considered one of the most beautiful rococo opera houses in the world. Richard Wagner moved to Bayreuth for this opera although it did not meet his requirements.
Bayreuth
Bayreuth is located in Franconia in northern Bavaria. This territory was successively Prussian and French (under Napoleon) before belonging to Bavaria. Today, Bayreuth is a prosperous small town (70,000 inhabitants) with an important university and technology center.
Photo Tips
Best moments to take pictures of the Opera House :
It is only a 15-minute visit with a projection. You have 5 minutes to take pictures with the visitors… so it’s not easy!
Material to be taken
- Camera: I recommend a camera that raises the sensitivity (ISO) properly, because it’s a dark room! and you won’t be able to use the tripod.
- Lenses: Ultra Wide Angle essential
To get there (from Paris)
- Train: 9h
- Car: 9h
- Plane: 2h (Nuremberg) + 1h by car
